PROFILE

Matt is a Member at the firm and concentrates his practice on civil litigation, with a particular focus on professional liability defense, employment, and commercial matters.  In his practice, Matt regularly defends physicians, hospitals, nurses, lawyers, dentists, and other professionals in federal and state trial and appeal courts and before various administrative agencies in Maine and Massachusetts. Matt’s trial experience includes helping secure a $16.4 million Superior Court jury verdict following a 15-day trial in Massachusetts on behalf of a major health care provider in a business dispute against a medical practice. 

Given his practice, Matt is also frequently called upon to represent health care and dental providers before state licensure boards. 

Matt was awarded a law degree magna cum laude from Suffolk University Law School in Boston, where he was active in the school’s trial and appellate court competitions and served as a student-attorney for indigent defendants facing criminal charges. After graduation, he served as a law clerk to Justice Janis M. Berry of the Massachusetts Appeals Court.  Before coming home to Maine, Matt was deputy general counsel for a large health care system and practiced at a Boston law firm, where he focused on complex commercial, health care, and employment litigation.

Outside of work, Matt enjoys golfing, baseball, football, and hiking, and has completed several marathons. Matt is from Scarborough, and lives in Cumberland with his wife, Kristen, and their three children, Logan, Luke, and Maizie.
